applying for grants at william & mary

all grants at william & mary flow through the office of sponsored programs (osp). that office provides pre- and post-award services to faculty and staff and facilitates the pursuit of external funding.

review osp'srouting process for federal or foundation research grant applicationsto better understand the process and timeline for applying for grants.

helpful tips:
  • contact[[mecole01,mike cole]]in the ospas soon as you knowyou are planning to submit a grant to give him your deadline for submission and a link to the rfa. then, complete theosp routing form.
  • to reduce stress for everyone, (including you!), aim for a complete submission of all grant materials, along with the routing form, to ospfive business daysbefore the sponsor's deadline.
  • contact[[ehtalbott, elizabeth talbott]]as early as possible if you are interested in seeking feedback on your proposal drafts and ideas, along with general questions about your budget. be sure to charge all costs to the grant, even a small grant. it's easier, simpler and a sure bet to charge all costs to the grant.
    • for both federal and foundation grants, work with[[eepowers, emily powers]]to draft your budget.
    • for foundation grants, contact[[sdowd, sommer dowd]], associate director of corporate & foundation relations in university advancement,to share your rfa and your proposal ideas. her office provides excellent feedback and requests two weeks to review proposals prior to the due date.all foundation grants must still flow through osp, so you will still need to work with mike cole to submit your grant.

use thegrant proposal submission guidance & timeline(pdf) to help schedule a work plan for submitting a grant proposal.
